    Great location and staff were extremely helpful. Beautiful decor in the hotel

    Furniture in our room was very scratched. The bathroom needs a shelf as the only place to put cosmetics was on the toilet.

    The hotel is converted from fine terraced houses. However, it has no lift, the path to some rooms is long, tortuous, and poorly-signed. There were 2 long flights of stairs to room. Room facilities: no drinking glasses; no iron; no trouser press. The hotel bills itself as 4-star. However

    "We thought it was very expencive at £180 per night for a double room but then Edinburgh is very busy so they can get away with charging so much. Over all not value for money compaired to other city breaks" (108650844)

    Short walking distance from Princes Street. Food in hotel very good. Clean.

    attractive

    creaky floorboards outside room kept me awaye. shower ran hot and cold. staff took so long to seat me and then forgot to take my order for breakfast that the kitchen closed in the mean time. it was advertised as breakfast included but that only seamed to include toast. the amount it cost me is more than the bill i recieved.

    the staff were very friendly and the room and other facilities were very clean.

    i was charged for breakfast and dinner when it was included - apolgies and amendment received straight away. the room was badly arranged in that you coulnt dry your hair in front of a mirror, very awkward when getting ready for a night out. the trips that were reccomended by the concierge were extortionate, we only asked whether there were any comedy clubs around that they could reccomend we didnt want an overnight stay in paris! Drinks prices are too high and as a result i noticed most people only stay for one as a result.

    The parking, hotel wanted £13 to park and the parking meters out the front of the hotel of £2 per hour, not the best ... But its Edinburgh

    "From the moment of stepping in to this hotel it felt unwelcoming, dark decor, being asked to pay when you check in, staff were polite but I don't think they had been trained very well in that they did not seem to appreciate that they are supposed to make your stay enjoyable. The impression was one of a business that was more interested in getting your money. Compared to other 4 star hotels this did not merit such status, and certainly did not justify the cost!"     Location of hotel was good, close proximity to centre of Edinburgh. Overall cleanliness was good.

    Probably the worst point was been asked to pay in advance when checking in! That experience was further aggrevated when their terminal for taking the payment did not work. No water in room, when I asked for some the member of staff said they could get some from the bar, when at the very least there should have been some in the room as a matter of course. Little things like the box that should have contained tissues was never filled up, despite requests. Breakfast was tinned fruit and plasticky meat/cheese slices in a cellar area which was dark and unfriendly.

    This hotel offers fantastic value for money in a brilliant central location. Our room was huge, extremely comfortable and wonderfully decorated. The service was exceptional and the staff were well equipped to deal with any questions we had. The hotel's restaurant is also well worth a try.

    close to centre, really warm and comfortable room. staff were really help full. tv over bath was brilliant

    no lifts and we were stayin on the top floor. not good when you have a bad back.

    Love to travel and visit other cities.

    The heating in the room was only working in one radiator and due to the large size of the room, which was gorgeous it was very VERY cold. I was staying with a young child and being on the first floor it was quite noisy.

    Very nice décore, quality funiture and room facilities, Great Location, Nice and warm, Friendly Staff, Free Newspaper, quality complementary breakfast with generous portions, quiet room.

    The place was so nice we wanted to stay in the room the whole weekend!

    staff very nice, decor different but nice bit dark in some places

    Felt if you had the breakfast buffet set out it would be a lot easy'er and quicker for all the guest's. Then to top it all we and the other guest's did'nt have any hot water all weekend. As well as wallpaper falling off the ceiling.

    "Not good.The lady who checked us in on arrival was very pleasant.Unfortunately when we returned to collect are bags after a day out it took a while for anyone to answer the door and the lady that did was quite rude.For the cost of this hotel we both feel it was extremely bad value for money as we could have stayed somewhere cleaner and friendlier for cheaper.     The hotel was close to town

    Our room was very dirty I could write my name in the dust on my bedside table.The whole room was covered in dust.When I informed staff of this we were offered a brief apology but as we had payed on arrival as requested there was no offer of any kind of compensation.

    Le personnel n'est pas expérimenté et/ ou pas suffisamment formé La note d'hotel a été payée en arrivant et pas au départ comme cela se fait généralement Le breakfast est à revoir, en effet, les viennoiseries sont froides car ont été surgelées, il n'y avait pas de plats chauds (bacon, oeuf, etc...) De plus les nappes ne sont pas toujours nettoyées des restes de miettes de pain. Le check in et check out est à revoir, en effet le comptoir étant trop haut et les réceptionnistes étant assises, on ne les voit pas... Vous indiqué l'existence d'un bar. Celui ci n'est pas ouvert le soir et aucune communication à ce sujet n'a été faite, encore moins lorsque nous en avons fait la remarque Conclusion : ce n'est pas un 4 étoiles

    "There were 18 of us staying and everyone else had a lovely room. Breakfast was good and plenty of it. Although we were disappointed with our room I would definatley stay there again " (97862685)

    Good hotel in great location.Some rooms had just been refurbished and were excellant.Very modern.

    Refurbishment work was still taking place in the hotel and unfortunatley our room was still be worked on and needed finishing off.

    I was upgraded to a double room which was very kind and greatly appreciated.

    The room was very dusty (I suffer form asthma so wasn't great for me). Also I found that my bed had not been made twice and there was very little evidence that any cleaning had been done, they left towels still in the bathroom as I had left them and did not replace toiletries.

    "Other than the extremely loud door bell which could be heard in the bottom floor rooms at all hours, and the moronic staff (having loud conversations on the phone at late hours, falling asleep on duty and causing their morning relief to ring the door bell ten to twelve times to wake them up) it was a great stay. If you're a soft sleeper beware, otherwise it's great." (97699362)

    Loved the decor: elegant and beautiful. Location was excellent. Food was decent. Price was fair.

    The loud door bell that could be heard throughout our entire floor at all hours of the evening. The staff, with one exception, were below the acceptable standard of deportment. Also, the plumbing could be heard through the walls at night, sounded like a waterfall in the wall.

    "We enjoyed our stay because the hotel was very convenient and centrally located. Therefore as we were tourists, everything we wanted to visit was within easy reach and there were sufficient good restaurants within walking distance. We did not spend much time in the hotel apart from sleeping and eating breakfast as we only had 4 days in Edinburgh and wanted to make the most of it. Therefore for our purposes the hotel was ideal."     Nice modern bathroom. Reasonable sized room with comfortable beds and chairs.

    Bedroom furnishings were dark, so needed every light on to make it light and bright, but this may be boutique hotel fashion!

    "Generally very good however a new system to let guests in after a night out would benefit the hotel's guests. I would definately stay at this hotel again although I would ask for the room not to be on the ground floor." (97729191)

    Central and accessible to Princess Street etc. Nicely decorated, cosy & warm.

    As guests are not given a key to the outside door of the hotel the doorbell rings to let guests in throughtout the night - our room was on the ground floor and we were woken several times throughout the night with the sound of the doorbell!! A restaurant would enhance the hotel.
